In 2004, the Missouri University of Science and Technology launched the campus' new Women's Leadership Institute (WLI). The WLI is a new strengths-based program, open to all majors and designed for students who desire to excel, help others, and learn how to change the world for the better!

WLI sponsors the Women As Global Leaders learning community in Missouri S&T's new all-suite Residential College complex. WLI activities will be guided by a year-long Women As Global Leaders class and a number of sponsored out-of-class activities focused on modern female leadership topics. Students who are not selected to live in the Residential College and are interested in being a part of WLI are welcome to enroll in the Women as Global Leaders class, participate in year-long activities, and help execute the public service project.

 Mission Statement:

 In supporting Missouri S&T's Mission...

The WLI's Mission is to serve as an Educational and Professional Development Resource Center for all Missouri S&T students.  The WLI provides a number of activities and programs for students to learn about leadership from the female perspective.  It's goals encourage student involvement and strategic leadership in campus and community organizations through involvement in the following areas:

  • Classes
  • Residential College Learning Communities
  • Guest Lecturers
  • Workshops
  • Scholarships
  • WISE/Student Organizations
  • Resource Center
  • Mentoring

The ultimate goal of the two-year program is to enable more students to be ready to assume leadership and management positions after completing their studies at Missouri S&T.

WLI Certificate:

The WLI was developed as a two-year program. During first year, WLI students will evaluate, develop and embrace their leadership skills. Second-year students serve in a mentoring and tutoring capacity for first-year students. All students who complete the two-year program would receive a Missouri S&T WLI certificate and this accomplishment will be included on each student?s co-curricular transcript.

Applying to the WLI:
There are two ways to apply and be a part of the WLI and the Women as Global Leaders learning community. Current and recently admitted students, who desire to live in the Residential College, must submit their Housing Request Form, Agreement, and a special Residential College Application no later than April 1. Students not living in the Residential College need to register for the Women as Global Leaders course when they are registering for their fall and spring semester courses.
